All done with the dentist

I went out and rode 16 miles this morning in case I don't feel like riding tomorrow or the next day.
I managed to work myself up into a quiet frenzy of apprehension, quieted a bit by the drugs -- I took a precautionary Vicodin before leaving the house.
As luck would have it, "In Dreams" was the Roy Orbison song that was next on the playlist when we started, so I took a deep breath of nitrous and floated away on that, giggling at the cosmosity of the coincidence. By the middle of the next song ("Coming Home" from the Class of '55 album) I had been numbed up, the tooth had been removed, and Jay was putting in the suture.
So now I'm home, with the novocaine just starting to wear off. Jay said that because the tooth was just coming out of soft tissue, the procedure would be "atraumatic." That meant there would be minimal swelling, no bone pain, and I'd just be a little sore for a couple days. We'll see, but I suspect he's right.
I'm feeling a little sheepish for having wound myself up. Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes.
Bonus: Jay is a big Orbison fan, and says the Black & White Night concert is the only music video he's ever bought.
EDIT: "A little sore" may be a bit of an understatement, but I think the drugs are going to be able to handle it.

Date: 2010-07-23 09:43 pm (UTC)Precautionary painkillers help a lot at the dentist. I kept meaning to take Tylenol before getting my teeth cleaned, but didn't because I felt so wimpy. I finally did it because my knee hurt too, and the difference it made was amazing.
