Memorial Day

This photo was taken last summer, in Mount Vernon Cemetery, a largely neglected place. But every year just before Memorial Day, members of the GAR Museum in Philadelphia place flags on the graves of our Civil War dead, which is what I believe this is.

My mother died two years ago today.

Garden journal and other notes

Two peony blossoms are history, another is past its sell-by date, and the third is in full bloom. They didn't last particularly long this year.
