Snow came down all day yesterday, melting as it hit the ground. As night fell and temperatures dropped, it began to stick. By 10:00 last night, the locust tree outside our front window had stacks of fat flakes an inch high.

We had three to six inches in the region. Here in South Philly, it looks like we got maybe four. They got eight at the airport. Roy said it was really fluffy stuff for which the appropriate technology was a push broom, followed by salt. While he pushed snow, I took a few pictures. I'll make dinner again tonight, even though I did it last night, to even up today's balance of chores.

Philadelphia schools are closed today.

The cardinals were already on the remains of the birdseed bell when I went out to take the first picture around 7:30. We're getting lots of bird activity today and the Scamp complained for thirty minutes straight at being kept indoors.

More photos if you want them over at Flickr (click photo), all taken from my front or back doors, or very close to them.

Nancy Pelosi: "Every month that we don't pass a recovery package, 500 million Americans lose their jobs. I don't think we can go fast enough."

The total U.S. population as of July 2008 was 303 million. Yeah, yeah, she misspoke and meant 500,000, but it also suggests she doesn't have the firmest possible grip on big numbers.

Now, 500,000 workers is a scary number, but I think it's about 1/2 of one percent of the workforce, if that.
