I've mentioned at least once, and probably more often than that, that I've been amusing myself by listening to a Librivox recording of Louisa May Alcott's
Little Women while knitting a baby blanket.
As I do this I'm remembering life pre-television, when my great-grandparents listened to the radio while the women knitted and the men smoked pipes, tied flies, cleaned their guns, shined shoes, etc. Much as the Little Women listened and did needlework while one of their number read aloud. Or how they played musical instruments or sang. Or someone read aloud from the paper.
I'm also re-learning, not that I ever totally forgot, how little it takes in the way of money for resourceful people to amuse themselves. (Knitting is nice, especially with luxury yarns, but for amusement bang for the buck nothing quite beats a yard of unbleached muslin and a few skeins of six strand floss, or a big old ball of #30 crochet cotton.) Why, I could probably fill all the evenings of the rest of my life with the current Librivox offerings and my craft stashes, as long as my eyes, ears, and manual dexterity hold out.
Librivox and other sources of Audio Books are available from the Internet Archive,

John Scalzi has also done a fine post on amusing oneself legally for less than $100/month. That's counting the cost of Teh Intarwebs.
