probably not of wide interest )

I saw that LJ came back up in a respectable amount of time. Last night we finally had our killing frost -- all the coleus are completely blasted, even in the most sheltered parts of the back yard. When I went downstairs this morning, the thermometer in the side alley read 24F.

Ferko has become a social animal. Something has given her new energy or new confidence, and she is once again hopping up on my desk. I've brought her on to my lap, where she stays, trying to bury her head in the crook of my elbow and purring, until I put her down.

Since she has also taken to sleeping next to the heating vent, I attribute this more to heat-seeking behavior than to any new fondness for me.

This morning, she put out a tentative paw to get my attention after hopping up on top of my papers. I patted my lap and she stepped right on to it. Note to self: use pale colored apron while in office to avoid getting white lap on black clothing.

Then there's the matter of that beautiful silk my son got me in Japan. I think I'll rip out the scarf I started and start it over again, knitting English this time. I don't feel comfortable with Continental knitting and see no reason I should continue to torture myself.
