Thanksgiving is coming...
Nov. 20th, 2008 09:16 amDespite the doom and gloom of the daily news, we have lots to be thankful for. Roy often says that any day that no one is shooting at us is a good day -- a holdover from being up close and personal from a shooting war. Me, I'm happy about my health. We're keeping an anxious eye on the political/economic landscape and giving some thought to a retirement home elsewhere so that we can grow butter beans in the back yard, but at the moment we have food, shelter, heat, health, and employment. Not too shabby.
It's a cold overcast day, and the few city trees I can see from my office windows are bare. The light has that special "let's roast a huge bird" look and I"m feeling quite cozy.
I discovered yesterday that a thermostat set at 64 downstairs yields a temperature of 58-60 in my third floor office. Fortunately, I have a nice sweater and a comfy knitted wool lap robe.
The ritual starching and blocking of the doilies prior to giving them away as gifts continues apace. I blocked two last night and two this morning. Another thirty or so to go.
Tuesday morning I pulled up my sage plants. They weren't totally happy about a day and a half of being bare-rooted, albeit in a plastic bag to keep the humidity up, but I've repotted in one-quart yogurt containers and cut them back. I have five plants and about a dozen cuttings. The plants will go live in Roy's office.
The aprons are still draped over the sitting room sofa, awaiting motivation to drag out the sewing machine etc. We hates our lovely sewing machine, yes we does Preciouss..... but I have the fabric and I want to divert as much money as possible to savings and debt reduction.
