LiveJournal appears to be down right now. Another DDOS, I suppose. This is a test to see if a Dreamwidth post will eventually be exported there.

My back is better today than it was Wednesday but not as good as it was yesterday. Annoyingly, it was fine when I got out of bed this morning but seized back up while I was in the shower. Grrrr. It's semi-seized right now and I'm on the heating pad; as soon as it eases up enough for me to get down on the floor I'll try my angry-cat muscle-loosening exercise.

I'd like to start another batch of springerle, using the no-shortening, no-hartshorn recipe, but I can't see myself standing at the kitchen counter for a couple of hours under current conditions.

Back up, right now. Sorry to hear about your back...hope it's better soonish. I'm thinking about making cookies this weekend - but nothing as involved as that!

Springerle -- when I make them -- are my big showpiece. My other Christmas cookies are snickerdoodles and fruitcake brownies.

EDITED TO ADD: In a nod to the season, I cut red and green candied cherries in half and press the half cherries into the snickerdoodles.

Are you using the 20-minutes-on, 20-minutes-off method for the heating pad? I've never heard a good reason why that works, but it does seem to work.

No, I haven't, but a friend whose husband is a massage therapist suggested alternating heat and cold, which would be more or less the same thing, wouldn't it?

Yes, I think so.

I've had tendonitis in my wrist for a few months now, and sometimes I ice it and sometimes I warm it, and alternating seems to help more than either one alone.

I have all sorts of hypotheticals as to why this works, but no hard data.

Come to think of it, my heating pad actually cycles off and on. When it's cold outside I am not enthusiastic about icing anything.

Actually, the ice is enough of a shock that I don't really mind. That doesn't make any sense, I know.
