Walking does not use the same muscle groups as biking, and I had a lot of trouble coaxing eight level miles out of my legs today (EDIT: on my bike, not walking!). But I did it. That is all.
My 2.2 mile up-and-down hike in the Blue Ridge about wiped me out. I think I could probably do 3 mile on level pavement, 4-5 on level grass, but I wouldn't swear to it.
I think it's not the distance covered on foot, it's the time spent on my feet and the weight placed on knees/ankles. I'm good for about an hour and then I start to hurt. After two hours I'm *really* hurting.
