I think you'll find this interview clip from CNN very reassuring. Also very revealing about the media mindset.

Note that this young lady who has spent a lot of time with Michigan militias doesn't find them at all threatening, with a few marginal exceptions. Note also that the interviewer tries *three times* to get her to say the militia movement is riddled with crazies, with mounting frustration:

Of course, "they're just a bunch of overage Boy Scouts enjoying the cameraderie" doesn't sell very many papers...

This particular interviewer gets on my nerves a lot; he doesn't seem to want rational discourse but shrill OMGOMGOMGWEALLGONNADIE! kind of responses.

When I see him on CNN, I change the channel to Animal Planet and look at puppies and kittens. ;-)

When they start showing up at routine government meetings and clashing with the Riot Police on a regular basis (like the anarchist that have shown up to the WTO, G8, etc conferences), destroying property and assaulting people at DNC meetings (throwing bags of concrete on buses, robbing people of their credentials, throwing caustic substances on them) THEN you have a basis for saying they're ACTUALLY violent and a problem. Until then, then they're blowing smoke and working.

Though, as Commander-Zero says, it does look like "they stepped on their own dicks in getting ready for the apocalypse" .

One thing I saw that had me saying "Whaaah?!? SO???!" outloud was a media report that they "fired shotguns and wore camouflage"!
