The sky is mostly blue this morning, with puffy clouds off to the west. We had a clearing storm last night around 11:00 and now the cold front is settling in.

Judging by the rattling of the panes, I'd say it's going to be pretty windy out today. I think I'll try a little bike ride anyhow.

I dug out the fabric for the stepmother/stepdaughter aprons. Can't find the pattern but I do have another apron cut out, so I'll use that. I found the pincushion, too. Now all I need is the motivation... I've always wanted to love to sew, but the plain truth is that I hate machine sewing and I haven't got time for hand-sewing on these two. Bleah. (Edit: I cut the two aprons over the weekend but am not yet motivated to find the iron on interfacing or drag out sewing machine, ironing board and iron.)

I seem to have chased a couple folks off my mutual friends' list, probably by being a bit too vocal about my political convictions recently. Or perhaps I'm simply a casualty of folks' friends housekeeping, nothing personal intended. In any case, I certainly hope that being forthright hasn't run anyone off the ranch. I thought I was keeping teh snark reasonably under control and/or behind cut tags.

LATER: the sunlight was a fleeting visitor. The clouds are rolling in. I felt the need to play with some plants, so I gave my Tradescantia zebrina a haircut and potted up the cuttings, for use outside next year. I also finally disambiguated my Tradescantia, meaning that I looked up their real names. The fleshy purple one that I scored when a heavy rain knocked a bit off a planter outside Meritage Restaurant is Tradescantia pallida and the stripey iridescent one is Tradescantia zebrina.

There was an article in today's Washington Post that I found interesting:

Five Myths About an Election of Mythic Proportions

It suggests that some folks' fears of the coming New Deal On Steroids (that would be mine) may be greatly exaggerated. I hope they're right.

I had a last-minute change of heart about the regal pelargonium 'Maiden Iced Wine' and now there are four cuttings rooting in a pot on the upstairs kitchen windowsill. The scented pelargonium cuttings I took last week appear to have rooted already.

Good article...really, I can't dispute any of it. I hope the final point of #1 - that R's will resurge in 2010 - is false, but only time will tell.

I probably consider our greatest political difference to be (let's call it what it is): socialized medicine. Otherwise - and forgive if I'm being too Pollyanna-ish - I think we have more views in common than different. Aside from that one little government handout I so fervently wish for, I hate taxes and Big Brother at least as much as you do. ;)

Stay warm! No freezing weather in sight here...days in the 50s, nights in the 40s.

I've read that blog before; mostly, it's pretty reasonable. (I'm not sure if it's one guy or if people alternate.)

As for your friend's list... I wouldn't sweat it.

I couldn't possibly defriend you. Despite the plethora of writers and wordsmiths on my friendslist, nobody else says things like "disambiguating my tradescantia."

Your tone is quite reasonable, I think. I sometimes don't peek behind the cut because we really live in different universes and on bad days I can't take it.

There are so many reasons for defriending, though, many of them benign.

On the other hand, you could defriend me for irritating habits like forgetting to log in and clogging up your comment threads with forehead-slapping. D'oh!

Yes, we disagree on PowerLine, among other things. I love those guys because, among other things, they all studied with my dear late friend Charlie Wood. They're social conservatives, though, and we don't agree there.

It's easy to tell your posts, even when you're anonymous, because you sign them with your initial.

There's so much more to a good friendship than political leanings. I found your posts, especially the snarky ones, during the election thought-provoking; it's easy for me to stay entrenched in my liberal viewpoint and not give a thought to any other point of view.

My schlumbergeria is putting out buds on the side facing the window, just in time for Thanksgiving. I hope it will deign to flower on the opposite-window side too.

Several of my Schlumbergera are budding out right now, but not the 'Madisto' -- or at least not yet. It may be too young.

I wonder if your cutting will keep the Thanksgiving-blooming ways of its parent.

Probably. Most of them do, once they've gotten the greenhouse forcing out of their systems.
