I have transformed the brave little amaryllis into a cut flower. Not only did I sever the scape; I also trimmed the sexy bits -- but not before I pollinated two of the late bloomers downstairs with a bit of its pollen.

The brave little amaryllis's sad and solitary little leaf is already perking up a bit. I'm waiting for the soil to dry out a bit, and then I'll hit the pot with a shot of Miracle-Gro. Or perhaps I'll repot the three in a larger pot first. There are three bulbs in a one-quart pot, leaving very little room for growth. I may re-pot all three in their own one-quart pots, or I may transplant them to a larger pot for their third year growth. I am going to have a windowsill crisis next year, in any event.

As the Hippeastrum/Nopalxochia Flower Show winds down, the Pod Show and cliffhanger begins. Which crosses will take, and which will not? Which crosses will abort in the first few days? (Everything that relied on my only bloomer from the class of 2009 as pod parent has aborted early.) Which will abort at the critical 28-day mark, which my largest pods are approaching in the next day or so? Which will grow to maturity but give me infertile seeds?

Only time will tell.

My Brave Little Amaryllis. It's in a jar of water right next to my monitor.

Monster pod. This is from a cross of TraderJoe-aka-FairyTale and Gervase, crossed back with Gervase.
