The blister under the callus wasn't as big an obstacle to playing as I had feared, although I only played for 45 minutes last night instead of an hour. The finger should be through shedding in a day or two, or so I hope.
There's a section of the tablature in the piece I'm working on that's totally opaque to me -- it's all up on the fifth to eighth frets and I can't get it to resolve into anything intelligible. But last night, while wrestling with it, I had a glimmer that it was going to come into focus some time soon, and that will be a good thing. There are about four Bars of Doom to be fought through. I decided that enlarging them might make it a bit easier....
EDIT: Ten minutes with the Four Bars Of Doom just now and I think I'll be ready to fumble through them (as opposed to deciphering them) by some time next week. Then there's the dreaded bridge. Who knows? I may be ready to play it in public by my 65th birthday (August 2013).
