Dear Diary, July 9
Jul. 9th, 2012 12:21 pmMath problem: If I buy a dozen 35-ounce cans of tomatoes, how many pounds of tomatoes (less the weight of the cans) will I be bringing home on my bike? I believe the answer to be "about as much weight as I've lost since getting a grip on my eating again." Nevertheless, it was a long two miles home from the Shop-Rite this morning.
I rode a total of 12-13 miles, approx, mostly level, mostly slowly although I tried to ride a little more speedily for part of the time to get myself back in shape. (Roy says he has trouble riding as slowly as I do, which is humiliating given that he's 74 and I'm a mere child-woman of 64.)
In other news, I think I gave my plants the last drench of Mort Aux Fungus Gnats today. I saw one solitary gnat about four days ago and I got him with a spritz of pyrethrins, so I hope that's that.
Also in other news,
halfmoon_mollie's willow wand has roots an inch long and is starting to sprout little branchlets, so I've potted it up in a small pot that I think will fit in a mailing tube. If not, I can always take it out of the pot (which is actually a 5 oz plastic drinking cup). Should be ready to send out in a couple of weeks. I'll wait until I see vigorous growth.
In other other news, one of my "calluses" turned out to be a deep blister, which started flaking off yesterday, leaving flaps of loose skin that guitar strings get caught in and do a good imitation of a paper cut. Very light, very cautious practicing will be called for until this situation resolves itself.
