Hippeastrum report / New York, New York
Jan. 8th, 2012 03:42 pmH. papilio is showing a tiny crescent of green within the depths of last year's leaves. Its position toward the edge of the bulb leads me to hope that it will turn out to be a flower stalk rather than leaves. Woo-hoo. 'Exotica' has leaves on both the mother bulb and the offset; 'Gervase' isn't doing anything but the visible bits of the bulb are more intensely green than they were. Both the mother and one of the daughters of Trader Joe NOID are showing shoots, as is one 'Apple Blossom." All of the Class of 2009 except the largest bulb are showing shoots. Only one of the transplanted Class of 2006 is showing any growth but it's early days yet. None of the 2006 rescues is showing any gratitude yet, but they've been tossed in a planter hugger-mugger and aren't getting much light.
Yesterday Roy and I went to New York City to see the Vivian Maier exhibition at the Greenfield Gallery (41 W. 57 Street). It was great to see the 12" x 12" prints, which had been made, I think, by Maloof from Maier's negatives. The few images that she printed herself (or had a processor print) were not as striking. There's a coffee-table book -- we ordered it from Amazon rather than lugging it home from NYC. Unsurprisingly, I took a lot of pictures of the streets of New York and especially Central Park. Click on doll-face here (a mannequin from the Chanel window) to launch a slideshow.
