I watched the Bagby Beowulf again last night. This time I was able to get further into the illusion that I was in a mead hall listening to a really talented scop. I'd gotten past the otherness of it and could appreciate the way his delivery changed when he switched from one character to another.
One thing I hadn't fully appreciated first time was the fact that he played Unferth as not only disgruntled but also drunk, slurring his Old English and swaying on his seat. It was hilarious.
Another thing: more words are revealing themselves to me, and that startling sensation of a phrase or an entire line suddenly being completely clear occurred more often and not only on "Pæt wæs gōd cyning!"
I think I will have to pay cash money for this one for The Collection. So I'm off toadd it to my Amazon wishlist order it because they only have a few left and I'm afraid it might go out of print.
