Dear Diary: September 5, 2011
Sep. 5th, 2011 03:41 pmToday's adventure:

It took me three tries to hoist my bike up over that fallen tree and down the other side. This picture was taken while I was straddling the tree. My ride around the Heinz Wildlife Center was wonderful for the first three miles. Then there were three downed trees and a flood in the last half mile, wheee.
But I persevered and I am a better person for it.
My little curly willow seems to have died -- possibly from root rot as the drainage of the pot didn't seem to be so good. I pruned it severely and we'll see what happens next. We've done a lot of pruning severely in the last week or so. Just before the hurricane we cut down the potted elm, which wasn't looking great anyhow. And I pruned the living daylights out of the Nopalxochia, which will either kill or cure it, I guess. (I have cuttings but the parent plant was looking decidedly terrible.)
My hippeastrum appear to be infected with hippeastrum mosaic virus. I may lose some or all of them.
Why has my thumb gone black this year?
I'll see my kid tomorrow, and we'll go up to see my sister and her family.
