070624jazzmuralpark4...the Beilers forgot me.

However, they are coming soon to a block party near me -- on my block, today, as a matter of fact. The Baptist church directly across the street is having a community gathering and the Beilers are setting up shop there. If they have enough tomatoes back home to accommodate me they'll bring them today. If not, there's next Friday, which actually would suit me a little better.

I took my bike north of Market Street for the first time in ages yesterday when I went up to Temple University to retrieve my glasses. I rode around North Philadelphia a bit -- up Ridge Avenue, which [livejournal.com profile] kightp and [livejournal.com profile] karenkay may remember from our driving tour of Philadelphia as the inner city street we used to get to Laurel Hill Cemetery. It looks a lot cleaner, which is very nice. Both violent crime and litter are way down, even in this down economy. One commentator has suggested it's because texting and videogames have hit the inner city and the kids just aren't out making mischief as much.

We aren't sure what we'll do with the current blue-sky day. If the block party gets noisy with a DJ, we think we may take sandwiches and bike up toward the Art Museum, and then hang out there for a bit. I'd also like to take Roy up my bike route from yesterday, to see a vacant lot turned pocket park that I photographed three years ago (photo upper right on this post). At that time, Roy remarked that he'd give it three years. Well, in three years it has gotten to look infinitely better than it was before. I wasn't in the vein to take its picture yesterday, despite having the Nikon along, but I really should do so soon.

On the work front, I questioned my guys closely and discovered they had two sets of issues: some things that required immediate changes, and some things they'd like to see for the longer term. That certainly works for me. So I put a band-aid on the current site and have started working on a newer site. We agreed (in principle at least) that if the site is to be built out further I will want to move from static HTML to a content management system before I have too many static legacy pages. I wonder if I could buy myself some hours from a developer who would coach me through a Drupal install...
