We have learned that the big lot adjacent to "our" house is also for sale. Woot!
Also, my health insurance will be more than 10% lower just for the move to a state that isn't the malpractice lawsuit capital of the known universe. I had hoped that I could change the policy to a higher deductible, too, and save some more money on premiums -- I've built up such a war chest with all my years of careful medical choices that I could fund more than a year's deductible at a higher rate from my medical savings account. However, thanks to "recent changes in federal regulations," my carrier isn't permitted to do that. Thank you, Mr. Obama, Mrs. Pelosi, Mr. Reid, and everyone who voted for that bill. Way to reward personal responsibility!
Roy reports that the conference he is attending, 20 miles away from Bedford, has one full day devoted to golf. That means one more day for him to explore Bedford and post the results to Flickr so I can see them. It occurs to me that, Bedford being a county seat, there is probably abundant work to be had in the transcription line.
We spent the early morning, rather grumpily, stringing hoses from our house to the next street over so that we can water some parched little trees that were planted this spring, because no one on that block has volunteered and 100F-plus temperatures aren't healthy for baby trees that were planted bare-rooted. Our hoses don't quite stretch that far, so we wound up toting 50 gallons of water (5 trees x 10 gal each) for longer distances than I especially liked.
I am really tired of losing my right index finger nail because of a persistent longitudinal split so I have belatedly taken the late Linda Cohen's advice and ordered the range of nail care products from Barielle that she said classical guitarists swear by. (Her own nails were disgustingly robust so she didn't have to bother.) I am guessing that use of these products has something to do with the long and sort of shiny nails some folks who play guitar sport on their right hands (Roy Orbison and Johnny Depp come to mind). Barielle says it takes 3-5 months for the products to work, since they must start at the cuticle. I do not heart finger picks, or the flat pick either, for that matter, so strong nails are key.
One last random observation. To conserve energy at least a little, we've been setting the A/C at 80 downstairs during the day. I'm keeping my office at 80 as well, with a little help from a booster air conditioner. Yesterday I had to spend a chunk of my afternoon in a building that kept the temp at 72-74 and I froze my arms off. Imagine that.
