It's a lovely day in the neighborhood, with highs in the mid 80s, not too terrible humidity, and few clouds in the sky. I'm enjoying a little bit of ill health -- and I do mean "enjoying" it. I have a low fever, a mild headache and sinus/throat pain, slightly scratchy eyes, some lower-GI symptoms, and I'm feeling a little tired (which feels like mellow). Just sick enough to relax without feeling I should be up and about. If this is swine flu there's not much to it (yet).
Two bits of my past have foregrounded themselves to me this week.
First, I've occasionally talked about the farm where we lived with my great-grandmother for a couple years when I was a kid. I talked about its remote location. The other day there was a report about the land abutting ours -- apparently it's the wildest stretch of eastern Pennsylvania and there's a 19-mile rails-to-trails thingie, the Stony Creek Trail, there. How about that? This link will probably go bad soon but I saved the page to my hard drive so I can look it over later.

The first picture looks a whole lot like, but probably isn't, the little stretch of creek where I would play as a kid, turning over rock and looking for crayfish, and swimming in the shallow swimming hole created by the little dam.
Second, I long ago lost track of an old elementary and high school friend who was my maid of honor at my first wedding. I looked for her online but didn't find enough clues to be sure that the person I'd located was my old friend. She, on the other hand, exercised the mad research skillz of a law librarian and found me! She's also hooked up with a bunch of the other girls from the old days and is suggesting a get together. This is really great because I moved away from this school district when I was 16, so I'm not on the reunion roster, but these are the friends I really remember.
Later on I may want to remember that the wisteria is blooming again, about eight flower scapes. Every time Roy cuts it back we get more flowers about two months later.
