Four Bear Woods
Jun. 21st, 2009 10:07 pmThe highlight of our trip back from Charlottesville. This morning, around 8:30, a black bear sow and two cubs ambled across Skyline Drive directly in front of us. We stopped the car not 30 feet away from them. As they headed into the brush to the right of us, a third cub came skittering out of the woods to our left and scrambled across the road in a big hurry. By the time I fished out the camera the two cubs who'd started to climb a tree had dropped into the brush. I think one black spot is Mama.
We also saw a deer, so tame that it was honest to god posing for a guy hanging out the passenger seat with a monster telephoto lens not more than eight feet from her. Lots of deer, lots of crows, the occasional hawk. A wonderful trip and I think I took close to 300 photos.
