I potted up all my rooted cuttings in one good sized hanging planter this morning.

We're having the first really hot day of the year today, about three weeks later than we've ever had it and a good six weeks later than we've had it in our recent hot summers. It's supposed to reach 90F this afternoon and then break with some cooling thunderstorms. Of course my one and only peony bud is getting ready to open. So I'm watching the weather carefully. The plant needs the moisture but the bud doesn't need to get beaten up, so I'll cover it with a baggie. Interestingly, the ants haven't found the plant this year and the bud is taking forever to open.

Tomorrow is supposed to be much cooler, so I'll finish up my spring planting. Today I think I'll pot up three of those Schlumbergera in a hanging planter to get them off the windowsills.

I'm curious about the effect of a plastic baggie over the bud. Do you only do that on cloudy days? Would the baggie concentrate the sun on a sunny day and burn the bud?

Thinking about past disasters here, and wondering.

As it turned out, I didn't need to do it. I was only going to cover the bud during a real driving rain that might pummel the living daylights out of it. We had heavy rain but it was a settled rain.
