The photograph as metaphor
May. 6th, 2014 12:28 pmI recently installed this photograph as my cover photo on Facebook, and the more I look at it the more I see it as a metaphor for something or other.
There's death and rebirth in the new green leaves at the base of last year's dead stalks of mugwort. There's persistence in adversity in the daffodil blooming on the discard heap of a hummock of waste soil. (And all that "bloom where you are planted" stuff...) There's the way a focus on the beautiful can blot out the less lovely in the surroundings.
Finally, that daffodil kicks ass. I'm tempted to go back and dig it up.
