Who is Harry George Theaker?
May. 24th, 2013 09:04 amShown below is a version of a watercolor: Harry George Theaker (1873-1954, English), "The Anticipated Letter," 48 cm x 70 cm. Having written that, I've written just about everything I know about Harry George Theaker, except that he illustrated a children's book called The Water Babies, as well as some others -- Bible tales, Grimm stories, etc.
I'd love to learn more, but Teh Google isn't helping, so I may have to throw myself on the mercy of some art librarians in my professional network. I do note that Google offers auction houses, etc., as the first 20-30 search results, bleah. This suggests that he isn't collected by art museums. Or perhaps I'm just not searching correctly.
Anyhow, here's the picture. I like it because it's vaguely preRaphaelite, reminiscent of the time of Richard II, and very blue (like the Wilton Diptych). Also: flowers!

And here's a link to the National Gallery page on the Wilton Diptych: http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/english-or-french-the-wilton-diptych
