Farewell, ugly carpet!
Jan. 28th, 2013 09:46 amThe guys arrived punctually at 8:45 and began ripping up the hideous and ancient wall-to-wall carpeting in the living room and front hallway. The floor in the hall was vile -- painted board laid hugger-mugger and showing cupping.
But the floor in the living room? Oak. We think it had probably been sanded and refinished several times and was probably too thin to take another sanding, and there are some spots that are in really really bad shape. But not so bad we couldn't have lived with it in preference to that hideous wall-to-wall. On the other hand, what would we have done about the hall?

Roy and I are going back and forth on what we should do about our big hulking pieces of furniture. We're about 90% convinced we're going to have the love seats hauled away. For the short run, we can be happy with our folding teak lawn chairs. The big bureau has already come up to the second floor. The jury is still out on the book cases. The remaining question would be where to put the piano. Its position by the front windows was suboptimal because of the light and heat hitting the case. Putting it in the back is also a problem because of the heat vent. Decisions, decisions...
None of these decisions have to be made today, though, thank goodness.
