I finished up a meeting yesterday morning and decided I should get in a quick bike ride before the clouds in the west turned into something serious. With spectacularly bad timing, I arrived at FDR Park (aka "The Lakes") just as the rain began in earnest.

The nearest shelter was under Interstate 95, which runs above the southern end of the park, dividing it from the old Naval Yard ship basin. For the first half an hour it was an enjoyable novelty to sit on one of the concrete barriers under the interstate, checking email, taking pictures, and listening to tunes on my Blackberry. Then the wind shifted and I lost my seat. And there was no escaping at least some of the rain. After about an hour, I was pretty well soaked anyhow, so I got on my bike and rode home. It was barely spitting in our neighborhood. I think the storm stalled over The Lakes.

Today was forecast to be sunny and hot, but I see clouds rolling in from the west again.
