Apr. 6th, 2010 10:35 amThe second Hippeastrum 'gervase' that I pollinated is almost certainly pregnant. The flower is totally deflated, and so are the girly bits. I see a little swelling on the ovary, too, I think. Along about June some time I should know whether there will be a Class of 2010.
I'm down to my last ten Nopalxochia flowers/buds so I guess the show will be over by tax day. So far, I've resisted the temptation to try self-pollination on that one.
Downstairs, the first of the Class of 2006 blooms is looking past its prime, but the second is going strong, as is the parent plant.
Class of 2009 is shedding a lot of leaves, presumably because of transplant shock and soil that's a bit too wet. I am thinking of taking the whole thing downstairs so that the moving air can dry it out a bit.
