090806_03kipling[livejournal.com profile] poliphilo has been rereading Kipling and posting brief reviews of some of the short stories in Life's Handicap as he does. I thought I'd follow along but my set of Kipling doesn't include a Life's Handicap collection, although most of its stories are included in the first four volumes.

The other night I dug out Life's Handicap from the box holding my second-best Kipling collection, which was more or less complete as of the date of publication (1917). As [livejournal.com profile] poliphilo noted, there are differences between the English and U.S. versions of several books and I suspect that some of the stories in his version may be missing from mine.

Anyhow...by the time I decided to join the party I was several storied behind him, but I was able to join in the conversations for several of them from memory. Rather than add my commentary here, thus spreading a conversation across two LJs, I'll simply say that his current crop of Kipling posts begins here: http://poliphilo.livejournal.com/706109.html
