I had eight dollars and a bus token. I needed to buy donuts for a 10:00 meeting; I had volunteered to do it.
Then Roy called. He had to delay his return for a day. Would I check him in on Southwest at precisely 8:50 so he would be assured of a good seat?
If I stayed home until 8:50 I wouldn't be able to take the bus. If I stayed home and called a cab I wouldn't have money for doughnuts and I wouldn't have time to make an extra stop to pick up money from an ATM. (No ATMs at Dunkin Donuts.)
If I rode my bike, I'd have time to make the doughnut stop and make it to the meeting, and money to buy the doughnuts. But rain was forecast for later in the day, possibly later in the morning, and temperatures are in the low 40s.
So I rode my bike. And it started to rain just as I pulled up at the location of my meeting, and it has been pouring ever since. I got home about an hour ago, did everything I must do, and I believe I will now loll about under an afghan or two until Federal Express gets here to carry away the work product of the day.
But first, I will take a hanger downstairs so that I can hang up my raincoat. Which really needs to be wrung out.
