Would anyone care to explain to me why Obama and Clinton are correct here and this writer is wrong?

EDIT: The comments in this one got ugly, so I'm screening them, which I fervently hope means that I took them private, not that I've deleted them. I've unfriended a commenter in haste and will probably repent at leisure and I had a few choice words to say to another one when I saw a particularly provocative sentence I'd previously overlooked. It is not necessary for two males to wave their generative apparatus at one another in order to make their points.
