Rioting six blocks from me

Police vowed to deploy more officers to South Philadelphia after hundreds of teens, notified through online social networks, flocked to the city early today and created mayhem along South Broad Street.

This mayhem was six blocks east of me. This is not nice. It's also the third or fourth time that this stretch of Broad Street has served as the place that large groups of youths assemble. Not reported in this brief article: a woman was carjacked, and another punched in the face in a McDonald's parking lot.

I'd be pleased to see Philadelphia reinstate its equestrian police force -- they're more imposing than bicycle cops.
