Election Day 2008
Nov. 4th, 2008 07:46 amWe've never seen a line at the polling place across the street from us. Roy says that when he first looked, just before the polls opened at 7:00, it extended around the corner. It's still 30 or 40 deep. I took a few pictures -- click on this one to get to the other four.
UPDATE: On the darker side of Philly voting, there are reports that Republican poll-watchers are being ejected from Philadelphia polling places despite a court order to the contrary. Last presidential election, some Philadelphia voting machines were discovered to be pre-loaded with a couple thousand votes for Kerry, so highjinks are a concern. Election Day shenanigans are a two-party sport -- generally practiced by the party in power at the local spot where machine politics is strong. In our case, that would be the Democrats. In other places that would be the Republicans. In both cases that would be scum. If we can't believe that our votes won't be nullified by fradulent votes, our confidence in the electoral system will be eroded, just as it is by voter suppression.
