Plant tales
Oct. 17th, 2008 02:28 pmMy sansevieria sent up two inflorescences while it was still out of doors. It's getting nippy in the evenings, so I bought it in. It doesn't appear that any of the buds will actually open indoors. The floor is littered with dropped ones.
When I brought in my first batch of coleus a couple weeks ago, some of them "conducted" water up their stems and onto their leaves, leaving white deposits and, in some cases, dead spots. I've taken new cuttings of those varieties just in case. I think everyone is indoors now. I also have variegated and plain old basil, a couple of sage cuttings, and my three flavors of tradescantia. One of them is in a hanging basket that won't come in the house until the ipomoea has rooted and been thoroughly zapped with insecticide, something I plan to do to it a couple of times.
The amaryllis have all been brought into the back house. I surely hope the seedlings bloom this year so I can make a selection of one or two plants and send the rest of the bulbs to Louisiana where a friend can plant them outdoors. I am discontented with my pelargoniums and will let them die.
It's almost time, I think, to withhold water from the various Christmas cactus.
Gardening never stops. It just shifts focus.
FYI: I've taken most of my LJ to friends-only. Not that I'm posting anything particularly revealing in any case, but I'm just feeling less public these days -- and I have no idea what you young and tech-savvy LJ-kidz are trolling for these days. I don't think there are too many folks reading my journal who aren't on my f-list already in any case.
