Quick notes to myself

House leek, on FlickrThe last hippeastrum folded this morning, so I'm taking that last planter outside to spend a few days in the shade before being gradually moved to more sun.

On our anniversary last year I asked for and was given a house-leek (Sempervivum somethingsomething, aka hen and chicks) from the garden at the Crystal Springs Motel in Towanda. It squatted in its pot and didn't do much until a few days ago when I noticed it had suddenly doubled in size. Now it's putting out three "chicks".

My new trailing rosemary had a furry fungus on it, eeuw. So I ran warm tap water over it awhile, hoping that the chlorine would kill the fungus or that at least the water would wash the fuzz away. The latter has happened; we'll see about the former.

The day before yesterday when we came home there was a very dead baby bird on the back doorstep. I am guessing that it fell from its nest and the Scamp brought it home.

The other day as I was sitting out back at twilight I saw a dark shadow slink over the brick border near the former rat-hole. It thought better of it and slunk back. So I guess Scabbers is back.

There's one seedling poking up in the Rudbeckia pot. Germination is due to begin in a few days so this may be an early bird. Or it may be a weed seed.
