Anniversary

Ten years ago yesterday,* we drove to Chester County and liberated Mr. Darcy from the SPCA, where he'd been picked up as a stray, held for evaluation as a possible K-9 for the Chester County Police, and rejected because he wasn't quite massive and intimidating enough.

We marked the occasion by telling each other Mr. Darcy stories, sniffling a little, and agreeing that city life isn't really all that great for a big dog, although Mr. Darcy did pretty well.


*True in essence if not precisely by the calendar; it was the Saturday of the Labor Day weekend in 1999.

Naked bike ride and other delights

I am home alone, because Roy is being a marshal for today's Naked Bike Ride. He will be clothed...

I've been sidelined by back pain for the past four or five days. Oddly, I've had none of the muscle seizures that usually go with back pain; just a dull ache in the left back/hip and a related ache radiating down the left leg. The only thing that hasn't been a trial is riding my bike from Point A to Point B for meetings etc.

But I believe I'm on the mend. They say that you can only perceive pain in one place at a time, and for these days my knees haven't bothered me. Today they have again, and my back has been mostly painless.
