Maybe I'm worried about the unions for nothing...

From the latest Rasmussen tracking poll:

Union members tend to believe that most workers want to join a labor union. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 47% of union members hold that view while only 18% disagree.

But those who don’t belong to a union hold a different perspective. By a 56% to 14% margin, they believe that most workers do not want to belong to a union.

As for personal preference, only nine percent (9%) of non-union workers would like to join a union. Eighty-one percent (81%) would not.

I have loathed the unions, from bitter personal experience as well as conceptually, since I was 20. I was working at the Post Office and hadn't had to join the union yet. The Big Boss called me into his office one day. I was apparently working twice as productively as the average worker and the "lifers" were upset at the prospect of seeing their own quotas raised and were talking to their shop stewards about it. He thought I'd like to know. Then, casually, he mentioned that twice in the past two months I'd taken seven minutes for my break instead of the six I was permitted.

Just try to walk the length and breadth of a city-block-square building and back to get to and from the ladies' room in six minutes, and also use the bathroom.

I got the message and resigned the next day.

This is probably the high point of this particular bloom, which I believe to be bigger than any I ever saw on her plants. It's three inches long and at its widest point it's four inches across. I fiddled with the color a bit to make it match the flower a bit better, but I think I may have dialed the saturation down a bit too far.

Been a long time coming. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] irismoonlight, for sending me the cuttings.
